GARDENING TIPS AND RECIPES

It's time to get those cool crops planted
for the spring season.  An easy way to begin
is to build a raised bed.
   Raised beds can
be made out of 4 ft. x 5 ft. lengths of cedar
or redwood.  If you live in an area where
the cold temperatures may still be a
problem make your raised bed into a
cold frame by attaching a lid made
from 1" x 2"  pieces of wood to sit
on top of the raised bed.   Add a good
grade fencing wire in a dome shape to
the lid and cover with a commercial
plastic drop cloth. This will protect your
early spring plantings.

See Marvin's design below for raised beds.

We will be selling some of our own home
grown produce at our local farmer's market
this spring and summer.  Raised beds can supply
fresh veggies for your whole family and even
your entire neighborhood!  With these tough
economic times it just makes sense to
to grow your own fresh produce!

See the "Itinerary" for our upcoming events!
Support your local farmer's markets and
check out the fresh produce they have to
offer!  Hope to see you there!

GREEN BELL PEPPERS BY THE TRUCKLOADS LAST YEAR IN OUR SUMMER RAISED BEDS
Grow  your own garden vegetables by building
a raised bed.  Raised beds are easy to maintain
and can be easily constructed!  See below!

Marvin's Raised Bed Vegetable/Herb/Flower Garden:

Materials:

4' x 5' (or size of your choice) raised bed (use  2" x  10" cedar or redwood)
1" x  2"  of cedar or redwood for top  (for cold frame attachment)
Decking screws
Two  1  1/2" hinges  (top attachment)

Screw lengths of wood together at ends.  A cold frame top can  be made by screwing together the 1" x 2" pieces of wood and using hinges to attach to the cold frame.   Add wire to the cold frame top by using fencing nails.  Cover  with plastic in a dome type fashion.  The plastic will protect those early spring plantings!
